We’ve all been there.
We see a super fit man or woman and assume they have something you don’t–an abundance of time to stay fit, or some special secret that supports their body reaching its potential and not yours.
Well, I am here to give it to you straight–we all have 24 hours in a day. And we all have the potential to be the best version of ourselves.
There’s something else that seems to stop us from attaining our vision of ourselves at our healthiest and today I’ve compiled my top list of what those are. These are the common barriers I’ve witnessed in many cases that stop people from reaching their potential. Check them out below.
Common Barriers to Reaching Fitness Goals
1) Poor Planning
Have you ever heard the term “failing to plan is planning to fail”? Well, it’s cliche because it’s true. If you come home late and exhausted from work and haven’t already prepped your food, you’ll likely give in to the chips and pizza. Additionally, if you have not scheduled your workouts, it is easier to skimp out on going to the gym. Schedule and plan to meet your goals. If you truly want to transform your body, you must take charge of your life and plan your meals as well as your workouts.
2) Lack of Motivation
I can’t tell you how many women I’ve started training, only to have them quit once the initial excitement wears off. This is always disappointing to me as a coach, yet unfortunately not surprising. What separates those who excel and those do not is the ability to continue with the plan (above) even when motivation fades. Find out what drives you when you want to quit and remember that when things get challenging. Period.
3) Lack of Information
Thanks to Google, we all have an abundance of information available to answer almost any question. But if you are a beginner–say you don’t understand the basic pillars of fitness and health yet–hiring a coach will be necessary to your progress. I offer coaching in person and online on my website. This part always separates those whom are really ready for change from those whom are not. Many are willing to invest money in entertainment, a bigger car note, or getting their nails done, but complain they cannot afford a coach to transform their body. This is absurd, as your body is your vehicle in the world–your bulletin board that illustrates to others your lifestyle. I’d say that is worth investing in.
4) Vision Isn’t Clear
When you make a fitness goal–it can’t just be to “lose weight” or to “get a bigger butt” (which I actually hear frequently). Your vision needs to be clear. How much weight do you want to lose? By when? Is your vision of you thick and strong or long and lean? Do you have a six pack or a flat tummy with no muscles? You must be specific so a coach will know what workouts and meals you need to reach your goals. Lack of a clear vision = foggy results.
We all fall into one of the above categories at some point in our lives. But how many of us stay stuck, and how many of us climb out and become our greatest version despite the speed blocks…? Decide which group you want to fit in.
